The best fleet rewards program is the one that fits the systems you already run and rewards behavior you can measure fairly. Most options are built into a telematics or dash cam platform, so your current vendor shapes the shortlist. Others are standalone recognition or points programs. Below are eight, described from each provider's own public pages as of October 2026.

The eight programs:

  1. Samsara Driver Perks and in-cab recognition
  2. Motive Driver Rewards
  3. Azuga Driver Rewards
  4. Tenstreet driver rewards and surveys
  5. Lytx safety recognition
  6. Netradyne GreenZone score and DriverStars
  7. National Safety Council safe driver awards
  8. Truck stop points a fleet buys for its drivers (Pilot)

We list them by type, not by rank. No public, independent study compares these programs on results, so this guide compares what each one is and does, and who it is built for.

1. Samsara Driver Perks and in-cab recognition

Samsara launched Driver Perks on September 10, 2026. Samsara calls it a free benefit for Samsara customers that gives drivers discounts and offers from more than 50 brands, at no cost to the fleet. Drivers reach the perks in the Samsara Driver App or by a link or QR code from their company, and redeem directly with each brand. Samsara projects up to $350 a year in savings per driver, based on projected use of a set of offers. Separately, Samsara's driver experience product adds AI briefings and recognition for safe driving over Samsara dash cams. Fits: fleets already on Samsara that want a perk with nothing to run.

2. Motive Driver Rewards challenges

Motive's help center describes Driver Rewards as custom challenges built on Motive safety, fuel-efficiency and compliance data. Motive scores the drivers and updates the leaderboards, and drivers see challenges and badges in the Motive Driver App. Motive says rewards "must be fulfilled and distributed outside of the Motive platform". The feature is only for U.S. customers with a paid or trial Workforce Management subscription. Fits: Motive fleets that want contests run from data they already collect, and will handle the prizes themselves.

3. Azuga Driver Rewards service

Azuga's rewards page describes a managed service. The fleet sets a budget and how often rewards go out. Azuga's customer success team identifies top drivers each month from safety scores, the fleet approves the winners, and Azuga sends gift cards to the driver's app or email. Azuga then confirms redemption and reports back. Azuga says the amount rewarded appears on the invoice, not as a separate charge. Fits: Azuga fleets that want rewards to happen without adding staff time.

4. Tenstreet driver rewards and surveys

Tenstreet's optimization center page pairs driver surveys with rewards. It says fleets can automatically award points for performance touchstones such as fuel efficiency and accident-free miles, redeemable for rewards like popular gift cards. Tenstreet says its Driver Pulse app is used by over 480,000 drivers every month. Fits: fleets that already recruit or onboard through Tenstreet and want retention surveys and rewards in one place.

5. Lytx safety recognition

Lytx announced a Safe Driving Report and dashboard on February 5, 2025, inside its Driver Safety Program. Per Lytx's customer page, drivers who meet a minimum distance and have no coachable events in a quarter become eligible. Managers can issue recognition certificates by print, email or the Lytx Driver App, and gift branded items from the Lytx Store. Lytx also said it would release safety badges later in 2025. Fits: Lytx fleets that want recognition built from their coaching data, with rewards left to the fleet.

6. Netradyne GreenZone score and DriverStars

Netradyne's 2021 blog describes the GreenZone score as a real-time driver score from 1 to 1,000, with 850 and above as the target. The platform also awards Driver Stars and Driver Star Streaks for good habits. Netradyne presents the score as a basis for the fleet's own incentives, such as bonuses, contests or company merchandise. That page is from November 2021, so confirm current features with Netradyne. Fits: fleets on Netradyne cameras that want a score drivers can see and a fleet-designed reward on top.

7. National Safety Council safe driver awards

The NSC Safe Driver Awards are a non-competitive, member-exclusive program. They recognize drivers for a period of time or miles without a preventable motor vehicle incident. Items include shoulder patches and lapel pins for 1 to 45 years, wallet cards, and a Million Mile Award plaque or crystal. NSC says 2027 nominations for its separate Safe Driver of the Year award open January 1 and close April 30. Fits: fleets that want a recognized, outside standard for years-of-safe-driving recognition.

8. Truck stop points a fleet buys (Pilot)

Truck stop programs are driver-facing, but one has a fleet door. Pilot's myRewards terms say some members may receive "Purchased Points" from their employers. Those points do not expire until redeemed at a Pilot location, and are used before earned points. They are subject to the same exclusions: no fuel, cash, gift cards, alcohol or tobacco, among others. Fits: over-the-road fleets whose drivers already stop at Pilot. For how the chains' own programs compare, see our truck stop rewards comparison.

What research says works, and what backfires

Public research does not rank vendors, but it does say a lot about incentive design.

  • Money, feedback and recognition each work, and they work best together. A 2003 meta-analysis of 72 workplace studies in Personnel Psychology (Stajkovic and Luthans) found that money, feedback and social recognition each had a significant effect on performance, and the combination had the strongest effect.
  • Rewards for low injury counts can discourage reporting. The GAO found little research on the question in 2012, but experts and industry officials it interviewed said rate-based programs may discourage injury reporting. OSHA's October 2018 memo says rate-based programs are permissible under 29 CFR 1904.35(b)(1)(iv) as long as they do not discourage reporting. Programs that reward reporting hazards or near-misses are always permissible.
  • FMCSA suggests incentives and recognition, and warns about one type. FMCSA's Safety Management Cycle for the Unsafe Driving BASIC (January 2013) suggests incentive and recognition programs for clean inspections, no crashes and fuel efficiency. It says not to use on-time delivery incentives, which could encourage speeding. FMCSA's guidance is a recommendation, not a requirement, and does not endorse any vendor.
  • Rewards do not replace pay. In ATRI's 2026 Top Industry Issues survey (released October 18, 2026), truck drivers ranked fuel prices, truck parking and driver compensation as their top three concerns.

We cover the trade-offs in more depth in cash safety bonus vs rewards and recognition vs rewards. For pay-adjacent retention levers, see driver retention without raising pay.

12 questions to ask any driver rewards vendor

Use these on every sales call. Most vendors do not publish prices, so ask for one in writing.

  1. Does it need your hardware or software, or does it work with what we already run?
  2. Which data decides who gets rewarded, and can a driver see that data?
  3. Can a driver dispute a data point, and who decides?
  4. Does it reward behavior, such as clean inspections or reporting hazards, or only low incident counts?
  5. Who pays for the rewards themselves, and is that separate from the platform fee?
  6. If rewards are physical, who gets them to drivers on the road?
  7. Is the reward cash, a gift card or merchandise, and can the driver choose?
  8. Does it include every driver, or only the top few each month?
  9. Can it include leased owner-operators as well as company drivers?
  10. What happens to unused rewards when a driver leaves?
  11. What will drivers see on their phone, and in what languages?
  12. What does it cost per driver, per month or per year, all in?

A scorecard can feed any of these programs. Our driver scorecard guide covers which measures are fair to use.

How to choose

  • Already on Samsara, Motive, Azuga, Lytx or Netradyne? Start with the program inside that platform, then ask whether its rewards, fulfilment and reach fit your drivers.
  • Want recognition with an outside standard? NSC's awards are built for years-of-service safe-driving recognition.
  • Over-the-road drivers who live at truck stops? Truck stop points are a reward drivers can use on the road.
  • Comparing any of these? Put the 12 questions above to each vendor and compare the written answers.
