There is no single best dash cam for trucking fleets. The right one depends on three choices: video safety alone or bundled with an electronic logging device (ELD) and telematics, road-facing only or dual-facing, and how much human review you want behind the alerts. Five AI dash cam systems built for commercial fleets:

  1. Lytx DriveCam
  2. Samsara AI Dash Cams
  3. Netradyne Driver•i
  4. Motive AI Dashcam Plus
  5. Geotab GO Focus family

Each is described below from its maker's own pages, opened October 20, 2026. None of them lists a price on the pages we opened, so cost comes from a quote.

FMCSA's list is self-certified: "The listed devices are self-certified by the manufacturer. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration does not endorse any electronic logging devices" (FMCSA ELD list). Check the current list and its Revoked tab yourself before you sign.

1. Lytx DriveCam

Lytx's DriveCam event recorder is a windshield camera with a "dual wide-angle lens" covering the road and the cab, infrared LEDs for night video, and an integrated microphone that records audio "from inside and outside the vehicle." Lytx lists built-in driver badge ID, live streaming, in-cab alerts, a manual record button, up to four auxiliary cameras, and up to 400 hours of continual video on the SF400 or newer. Lytx says DriveCam "detects over 100 risk indicators."

The review model leans on people as well as AI. Lytx says its AI "is trained on over one million hours of video and enhanced by professional human review" (Lytx fleet safety). Lytx also lists "scorecards and milestones to reward top performers." Its Risk ID Without Recording option detects in-cab behavior such as handheld device use "without having inside-lens footage stored on the device."

How it is sold: directly, as LytxOne (video, telematics, maintenance and DVIR), as Lytx+ with Geotab telematics, and through resellers as Surfsight (Lytx home). Lytx says its program brings an "80% reduction in claims costs," footnoted as an "estimate based upon a select sampling of Lytx client data" (Lytx fleet safety).

Fits fleets that want a safety program built around video review and structured coaching, including fleets already on Geotab.

2. Samsara AI dash cams

Samsara sells a Dual-Facing AI Dash Cam and a Front-Facing version, plus an AI Multicam for added views. Its feature list includes driver and passenger face blurring, pedestrian and license-plate blurring, mobile-phone and no-seat-belt detection, speeding detection at 10, 15 or 25 mph over the limit, rolling-stop and drowsiness detection, and a parking mode that records 1 to 12 hours after a trip. Samsara sells a driver-facing lens cover as an accessory.

On its dash cam page, Samsara states 1440p front-facing resolution, local storage with LTE connectivity, and "up to 746 hours of configurable storage." The camera sits inside a broader platform: telematics, ELD, maintenance, routing, driver apps, and what Samsara calls "over 350 API integrations." Samsara also says it recognizes "safe driving streaks" and milestones.

On results, Samsara says its 2025 Safety Report found customers "typically experience a 35–40% aggregate reduction in crashes over time," and that fleets with 175 or more vehicles using its full AI safety suite "see ~75% decrease in crash rate over 30 months." Pricing: Samsara's pricing page asks for fleet size and routes to a quote.

Fits fleets that want cameras, ELD, telematics and other operations on one platform.

3. Netradyne Driver•i

Netradyne's Driver•i fleet camera system comes in road-facing, dual-facing and quad versions. The quad device carries "four HD 1080p dash camera views—road-facing, driver-facing, and two side windows." A Hub-X accessory adds up to four more cameras. Netradyne says Driver•i analyzes "100% of driving time," offers "30+ Driver Alerts," stores up to 200 hours, and has "up to 99%" accurate AI, footnoted "Individual results and conditions may vary."

Privacy features on the same page: an optional Enhanced Privacy Mode to "detect risk such as distracted driving without recording inside the cab," a privacy mode "for when the driver goes on a break or clocks out," and a camera that turns off with the vehicle.

The scoring is the distinctive part. Netradyne's GreenZone Score counts safe behaviors as well as risky ones, and drivers earn "DriverStars" for things like full stops and safe following distance. Netradyne says drivers scoring 950 or more "are 2x less likely to have a collision." The camera also works as the ELD: "the Driver•i camera doubles as an FMCSA-registered ELD" (Netradyne compliance).

Fits fleets that want driver scoring that recognizes good driving, on one device that is both camera and ELD.

4. Motive's all-in-one AI Dashcam Plus

Motive's AI Dashcam Plus combines Motive's Vehicle Gateway and dash cam "into one device," which Motive says "typically installs in under 15 minutes." It has a 1440p zoom lens and live two-way calling. Some features are still rolling out. Motive says features available only on the AI Dashcam Plus, including running "30+ high-precision AI models simultaneously" and Collision Evidence Capture, "will launch throughout 2026," with stereo vision "coming late 2026."

On its driver safety page, Motive offers road-facing and dual-facing cameras. Privacy controls include a Driver Privacy Mode to "turn off the driver-facing camera when a driver is off duty or vehicle is stationary," a "Driver Privacy – AI On" setting that keeps AI insights "without recording or storing driver-facing footage," privacy blurring, and data retention set "from two weeks to indefinitely." Motive's Safety Team reviews low-confidence events to remove false positives, and customers can choose AI-only validation instead.

Two state notes from Motive's own footnotes: Face Match "does not function in the state of Illinois," and Collision Evidence Capture "is not available in AR, NH, ME." Motive says customers insured by one of its "40+ insurance partners" can "save up to 10% on insurance premiums."

Fits fleets that want ELD, telematics and cameras from one vendor in a single windshield device.

5. Geotab GO Focus family

Geotab's GO Focus line runs inside the MyGeotab platform. Geotab describes four models:

  • GO Focus: road-facing only, recording "road footage for collisions and tailgating."
  • GO Focus Plus: road and in-cab detection, with in-cab verbal alerts.
  • GO Focus Plus Road-Only: added January 2026 "for enhanced driver privacy" (Geotab Marketplace).
  • GO Focus Pro: 360-degree visibility and "continuous inference."

Geotab's marketplace listing says GO Focus Plus detects phone use, fatigue and tailgating, and that the box includes four "Recording Warning Window Stickers." Geotab's ELD app, Geotab Drive, is on FMCSA's list.

Fits fleets that already run Geotab telematics, or want a road-only camera that never records the driver.

Dual-facing dash cams and driver privacy: settle these first

A dual-facing dash cam records the driver as well as the road. These are the policy and legal points to settle before installing one.

  • Mounting. Cameras count as "vehicle safety technology" (49 CFR 393.5). As of October 2026 they must be mounted "not more than 216 mm (8.5 inches) below the upper edge of the area swept by the windshield wipers" or "not more than 175 mm (7 inches) above the lower edge," and outside the driver's sight lines (49 CFR 393.60(e)(1)(ii)).
  • Cameras tied to the ELD. FMCSA's harassment rule covers information from an ELD "or through other technology used in combination with and not separable from the ELD." A carrier may not use it in a way it "knew, or should have known, would result in the driver violating" the hours-of-service or ill-or-fatigued rules. Productivity monitoring is allowed "provided that such monitoring does not result in harassment" (49 CFR 390.36).
  • Facial recognition. Some systems identify drivers by face. Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act covers a "scan of hand or face geometry." A private entity may not collect one unless it first informs the person in writing and "receives a written release" (740 ILCS 14/15(b)). Ask every vendor how its driver ID works, state by state.
  • Audio. Some cameras record cab audio. Lytx says DriveCam does. Ask counsel whether your states require notice or consent for audio.
  • Who sees what, and for how long. Write down who can view in-cab video, when it is shared with the driver, and how long it is kept. Motive, for one, lets fleets set retention "from two weeks to indefinitely."
  • Off-duty time. Decide whether the driver-facing lens is off when the driver is off duty or in the sleeper. Netradyne and Motive both list a setting for it.

Buyer checklist for a fleet dash cam

  1. Check the ELD on FMCSA's list and the Revoked tab, by device name and ELD identifier.
  2. Trial on your own trucks and routes. Every accuracy figure above is the vendor's own. Count both missed events and false alerts during the trial.
  3. Ask who reviews events: AI only, the vendor's people, or your team.
  4. Get the in-cab privacy settings in writing, including what is detected without being stored.
  5. Confirm storage and retrieval: hours on the device, upload rules, parking or engine-off recording.
  6. Plan coaching. A camera finds events; a driver scorecard and a coaching routine change behavior. Our guide on how to reduce fleet accidents covers the rest of the program.
  7. Get price and contract terms in writing. None of the five lists a price on the pages we opened.
